Dean Ashton will get a call from Steve McClaren this week inviting him to be part of the England national team ahead of their Euro 2008 qualifiers with Estonia and Russia.
The 23-year-old striker has been on fire as of late, scoring three times in West Ham’s last four matches. England boss McClaren talked about Ashton’s call-up:
He has forced his way in. It was very disappointing about the injury at the start of last season with England. I have been watching him from pre-season onwards and he certainly comes into consideration.
It’s great to see the young lad get a shot like this. He nearly made his debut over a year ago before breaking his ankle and now his services will be called upon when the national team needs him the most.
Quite an honor for the kid and one he has certainly earned.
